OMG It's the FASTMaster
Hello once again from the world of FAST. It’s been a busy couple of months and really it is only going to get busier for everyone’s favorite FAST analyst:
March 23, I’m taking part in a Video Elephant webinar discussing FAST, so sign-up here to watch: https://2367018.hs-sites.com/intersection-of-content-and-technology-fast-aggregation-in-2023
April 4, I’m keynoting at Future of TV Australia in Sydney on the wonders of FAST: https://www.adwantedevents.com/FTVASydney
April 18, MIPTV invited me to host the FAST & Global Summit, as well as presenting alongside the wonderful Marion Ranchet: https://www.miptv.com/
If you’ll be in any of those places, let me know, perhaps we can say hello.
I’ve also written a couple of pieces at Variety Intelligence Platform, first examining the frankly appalling state of Black FAST in the US (https://variety.com/vip/black-americans-continue-to-be-underserved-in-fast-1235533999/) and then this week on the state of measurement and success metrics within free streaming (https://variety.com/vip/free-streaming-metrics-need-to-change-1235548242/). A couple of data highlights are below in case you’re tempted to read more.
This is even more stark considering that 14% of the US is Black. Hopefully FAST will begin to be more representative soon.
Courtesy of my friends at TVision, the average amount of time spent watching free streaming services (those included are noted in the footnote) has increased by 134 minutes per month in the last year (+57%). Considering that not all FAST and AVOD services are included here, the total would only be greater but this is very good momentum for the format.
You may have noticed that this version is missing some data points that everyone came to love. All I can say is that a discussion was had and I was told that I can only share highlights from things published. So for now… this is it.
