There has long been a disconnect with originals in FAST. Many assume originals can only be scripted, or that FAST simply cannot sustain any originals. As I noted in Variety VIP+’s Life in The FAST Lane report in December 2022 and again in August 2023 in this commentary, FAST originals have existed for quite some time and continue to grow in number, mostly in unscripted categories.
Trusted Media Brands has been one of the pioneers in the space, and it was a pleasure to sit down recently with TMBI’s Chief Business Officer Cameron Saless and TV-turned-FAST star Scott McGillivray to discuss both the launch of Scott’s Income Property show on At Home with Family Handyman as well as the potential that FAST offers. It was great hearing how Scott thinks that this is just the beginning for FAST and those who dismiss it are being very shortsighted.
I would say it’s a conference-worthy discussion available for free. If you’re interested in the topic, it’s a can’t-miss.
Show Notes (thanks AI):
The evolution of content creation and the ability to connect with viewers on a deeper level.
The challenges and opportunities of the Income Property show and the decision to venture into the FAST space.
The importance of paying attention to the FAST space and the benefits of early adoption and success in this space are highlighted.
The origin and success of the Income Property show are also discussed, along with the exploration of FAST as the right home for content.
The conversation concludes with the significance of incorporating FAST into original programming and the benefit of creative arrangements in the production space.
