Disney is Now Distributing FAST Channels to External Platforms
National Geographic: Sharkfest and National Geographic: Wicked Tuna launch on LG Channels
Pretty sure this is an exclusive. In any case, 2024 looks to be the year Disney went in on FAST. For the first time ever, non-news Disney content is now available on a platform other than the ABC app as LG Channels has added two channels under the National Geographic banner in Sharkfest and Wicked Tuna.
I’m not going to go all “I predicted something obvious” to try to look good, but what I will say is that this makes it a very exciting time to be covering FAST. Will Disney begin this en masse or will this be a slow drip of channels?
It’s worth noting that while Wicked Tuna remains available on the ABC app, Sharkfest was last available on ABC’s service in September.
I can’t say for sure yet if these channels are exclusive to LG currently (I am in the middle of the analysis for January’s channels) but I did think this was a noteworthy alert to share. This means now that all legacy media companies are active in FAST outside of their own platforms. Netflix, you’re next.
